History of Hangzhou
Zongzi was the style of Zhangdai (1597-1679), tao’an is his first name. He came from a official family. Though he led a comfortable living in his childhood, he was down-and-out and buried himself in the mountain late in life. He still kept writing. He enjoyed traveling over the landscapes, read music, skilled at tasting good tea which is said as “to p’in tea”, interested in collection, and was acquainted with Chinese opera. The fifth year since emperor Chong Zhen climbed to the throne, also known as year 1632 when Zhang dai dwelled at lakeside of Westlake where had been successively snowed for two days. In the lake There were no sound of persons or birds can be heard, all the sky the hill and the surface of water were capped by white snow. The boatman little puzzled by Zhang Dai’s demeanor that he rent a boat, wear thick garment and bring warm ingle to the middle lake pavilion to enjoy the beauty scenic of snow. Indeed, outside is extremely chill, it is better to stay at home than go out at such snow day. After came to pavilion they realized on the felt sit two man opposite to each other with a boy servant boiling wine by stove, inquiring then they knew those two people from Nanjing, who were joyous at the sight of Zhang Dai，insisting Zhang should drink three bowls of wine with them before return back. Surprised by this, boatman exclaimed to Zhang: “People often regard you pedantic, but never expect anyone more so. I see today.” It is hard for us to find Zhang Dai-like people at present.
