Zhang Xiaoquan, a famous historic brand in China, was established in the Ming dynasty (1368-1683) in Anhui Province. A man called Zhang Sijia was good at smithing, he passed his techniques to his son Zhang Xiaoquan, who was a hard learner, they did many experiments to forge good scissors. The blades were sharp, but safe and convenient to use, because of the fine steel and their mature techniques. Soon many professionals like tailors, whitesmith, and gardeners heard of their fame, and came to the workshop to buy scissors. At the end of Ming Dynasty, Manchu soldiers invaded into central China, Zhang Sijia and his son Zhang Xiaoquan became refugees to Hangzhou. They settled down on the Hefang Street and opened a new workshop. Zhang Xiaoquan applied new technology into the scissor forging, improved the quality greatly. In Qing dynasty, they began to use the Zhang Xiaoquan’s name as their brand; soon it became one of the top five brands in Hangzhou. In 1915, the scissor won a medal in Panama “World Expo”, it became renowned and popular in western countries. To memorize the founder and the hard history, Zhang Xiaoquan Scissor Museum was opened to public in 1993, telling you stories about scissor and its founder. And in 2006, Chinese government listed Zhang Xiaoquan scissor forging technology as one of invisible and intangible cultural heritages.

In centuries, Zhang Xiaoquan scissors stayed innovative and kept high quality to meet customers’ needs. Till now, it developed many lines of products, such as gift scissors, tailor’s scissors, children’s scissors, home scissors, nail clippers, etc. Because its good quality and cost-efficiency, Chinese people touch it in daily life, and most of tourists would like to bring these scissors home when they travel in Hangzhou.
