 Hangzhou Silk
Hangzhou has been called the realm of silk for centuries, the almost 4,700-year-old silk products excavated in Liangzhu City of Hangzhou proved a long history of silk industry in Hangzhou. The silk industry became prosperous since the Tang and Song dynasties, a period of over 1,000 years, and then started exporting silk products to the West. Silk gained people’s adoration because of its good skin feel and noble feelings. Marco Polo (1254-1324) described in his book “The Travels of Marco Polo” that Hangzhou made abundant silk products and most people on the streets were wearing silks dresses.
